There are just a few restaurants in Kota Kinabalu where you can eat Tomyam noodle soup, and one of them is in Hilltop (Kedai Kopi Janggut). We went there since we were curious and had heard good things about the food from our pals.
The location is generally crowded in the morning, so plan to arrive early. It’s called “Janggut” since the owner has a beard.
Here are some of the dishes on the menu at Kedai Kopi Janggut.
My verdict
The food was delicious, especially the Tom Yam soup and their unique fried noodle. You should try the soursop juice.
The restaurant is clean, but the service is slow. We asked one of the workers for a menu, but we had to wait an eternity. Finally, I asked the boss to take orders, and the entire menu was based on photographs from her tablet (and no pricelist). Remember that the fork, spoon, and condiments are all self-service.
Suggestion: create a menu set with prices so people can easily order.
